PR is a nuclear hormone receptor that activates the transcription of various genes, particularly in reproductive tissues, which are regulated by its ligand progesterone. Two isoforms exist: PR-A (94 kDa) and PR-B (114 kDa). The antibody PR detects both isoforms. The ratio of these isoforms varies in reproductive tissues and during carcinogenesis. The antibody labels cells in the breast, ovaries, and uterus and is an important marker for the detection of breast cancer.
