Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) is a transcription factor that plays a role in the development of the genitourinary system. WT1 is the most common type of pediatric kidney cancer. It has been found in a wide range of adult tumor types, including those derived from mesenchymal, epithelial, neuronal, and hematopoietic tissue. The antibody can identify malignant mesotheliomas and has been detected in breast carcinomas, leukemias, and ovarian and peritoneal serous carcinomas. WT1 is also used to differentiate desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT) from other small round cell tumors.
