BAP1 is functionally a tumor suppressor. It functions as a deubiquitinase associated with multiprotein complexes that regulate key cellular signaling pathways, including the cell cycle, cellular differentiation, cell death, gluconeogenesis, and DNA damage response. The BAP1 antibody is used for the prognosis of uveal melanoma, for distinguishing metastatic uveal melanoma (at least 77% negative) from metastatic cutaneous melanoma (5% negative), and for distinguishing mesothelioma from benign mesothelial growth.
