MSH2, also known as MutS homologue 2, is a key protein in the DNA mismatch repair system. Mutations in the MSH2 gene can lead to microsatellite instability (MSI), which is caused by an accumulation of errors in DNA replication during cell proliferation. MSI is associated with hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC, Lynch syndrome), which is characterized by the development of colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, and various other tumors at a young age. The MSH2 antibody is useful for the detection of MSI, particularly in a panel with MSH6 (-M005-), PMS2 (-P005-), and MLH1 (-M001-).
