HSP70 is a 70 kDa heat shock protein. In conjunction with other heat shock proteins, it prevents the aggregation of other proteins and mediates the folding of new proteins during synthesis. HSP70 protein expression increases when exposed to stress factors such as temperature shock, hypoxia, oxidative stress, and pH changes. Tumor cells can exploit this mechanism to gain a survival advantage, as demonstrated by the overexpression of HSP70 in hepatocellular carcinoma.
